How To Achieve All Your Academic Goals This School Year

Ah, yes, summer is almost over and soon we'll all be lugging bags (both on our backs and under our eyes) back onto school property for one more year of anxiety, stress and unnecessary drama! *jazz hands* But while some things in school are constant and can't change, the outcome of your experience is not one of those things.

You see, about two years ago, I moved to a brand new school where I knew basically no one and I was forced to adjust and do well. Truth is, in those two years, I did 10x more work and achieved much more impressive achievements than I had in the previous five years at my last school. How did I do it? Well, like everyone else going back into school, I obviously had goals and a faint idea of who and where I wanted to be at the end of the year but it was my approach to these goals that really allowed me to check off all my goals. And, that's what I want to share with you guys today! Because you can set as many goals as you want but if your approach is lousy your outcome will mimic that!

But just wait a minute! If you're new to my blog, welcome! If you're a student like me, you're in luck because I'll be dropping lots more student life content in the upcoming weeks to help get you prepared! You know what that means? Subscribe so you can get notified every time I drop a new post! To my usual readers, welcome back! I missed you and your beautiful faces! Oh, one last thing, be sure to tap the heart icon at the end of this post because I'll be sad if you don't. No, seriously, go click it. Did you do it? Okay, did you do it now? Okay great thanks, back to the post. This is: How To Achieve All Your Academic Goals This School Year.

Studying and taking notes as a student with pens, paper and highlighters.

Try To Build A Relationship With Your Teacher

So it's the first day of school, you walk in and the teacher starts speaking about the subject and then the most dreadful thing happens: she wants everyone to go in a circle and introduce themselves. Oh, the horror. In all honesty, there is no way to quell your anxiety at this point. It's over. But what I can say is remember to smile and look directly at your teacher when you speak! Why? Because that's the person that will be teaching you for an entire year and it's better to start developing a connection from early.

I think many people downplay how much a healthy relationship with your teacher can affect your school year. If they know you, they're more likely to trust you, help you and even be okay with you missing assignment deadlines and skipping classes. Yes, I said it. Skipping classes. Y'all need to stop playing !

Studying and taking math notes as student with a subtle aesthetic.

Now, I'm not saying that you should be a suck-up and if you're teacher says to jump you metamorphosis into a rabbit, but I think it's really important to build a good relationship with your teacher. Just helping them carry books, asking questions and even asking them how their day is going can go a long way. They are people, after all, just like you and I. If you know your teacher a little better and they know you, you'll be way more receptive to whatever they have to teach you. In my experience, it's always the teachers who I was cool with that I not only tried to do better in their classes, but their lessons were always easier to remember.

So don't be estranged from your teacher. Be open to talking to them every now and again and just treat them like people. They're their to facilitate your learning, not kill you.

P.S. If you think you can't do this because your teacher is strict, it's the strict teachers who are always the nicest. Just trust me on this. They're really soft inside.

Start Studying

Studying and jotting down notes as a student and eating an apple.

I know, I know. Ew. But I swear this is extremely important and it works! The very day your teacher starts to actually teach, go home and revise everything you learnt. Your notes, handouts, everything. It should take you about an hour depending on what was taught and then you're done! The charm of this however, comes into play when this routine becomes a habit and you find yourself connecting a lot more with the content taught in class and understanding each concept better and better as the days go by.

But the best part? When it's time for exams, you'll barely have to study a thing because you've basically been doing it all year. You'll be so refreshed that, there's almost no need. Say goodbye to cramming the night before an exam!

Join A Club

One thing I didn't do at my first high school was join a club. As corny as it may sound, clubs certainly help. They make you a little less tunnel-vision and help you develop relationships outside of your classrooms. Also, if you're in a really strong club you can have the chance to go to some really cool places like international competitions or have the chance to meet some really impactful people! Clubs can teach you responsibility, work ethic and team work, qualities that your success in high school quite literally hinges on.

Oh, and well, it looks good on your record!

Conclusion

And there you have it! I promise if you implement these strategies from the very beginning of school you're entire outlook will change and you will 110% achieve all your academic goals. Hands down. Tried and tested by yours truly.
