Hey, readers, welcome back! This week has been so incredible for me because, if by some miracle you were unaware, I actually announced that my newest book, "Godspeed" will begin on Friday. Along with the news, I dropped an Introduction chapter that briefly skims over the basics of the book. So, if you're reading this right now, "Godspeed" has begun uploading and you can begin reading it here. Not only that but the final chapter of "Wicked, Wild, Wonderful" should also be live, the penultimate part before the epilogue.
So far, I've been absolutely showered with support and my heart is full. If you've shared or commented in anyway, thank you!
It's actually because of this amazing response and my interaction with you guys that I decided to just dive into exactly what Godspeed will be like and how it's so much more different than anything else I've ever written. But before we get there, if you're new to my blog, why hello there. I discuss everything from lifestyle to writing tips to Wattpad to school. You'll love it here! So don't be shy, be sure to subscribe by filling in your info at the bottom of this page and tap that little heart button so I don't feel like a complete waste of space. Thanks! Okay, let's jump in. This is: Everything You Need To Know About Godspeed.
The Synopsis
Marley Mason hadn't known peace since he moved to the U.S.
He did not speak.
He did not cry.
He did not know how to live anymore.
Until he meets Ava DeLoughery and suddenly wants to give the world a second try. To put his headphones down and experience everything that life has to offer one at a time again, and again, and again. But the Miami summer heat must be getting to him because Marley Mason should know better than to believe in fickle things, like love.
Paid Stories vs Free Books
Now, the biggest thing about Godspeed is that, it's free. I think I should explain why and give you guys a little idea of how I'll continue to be a part of the Paid Stories program and at the same time balance out my free works.
Currently, the general idea is that my absolute best works that require the most time and effort will be in the Paid Stories Program. Let's take "Wicked, Wild, Wonderful", for example. Before I ever uploaded it, I spent almost a year perfecting it and doing research. Not only that, but it has a word count of 60,000+ words which is the equivalent of a full length novel. It's a lot.
"Godspeed", and all my other works are a lot different. I don't spend nearly the same amount of time into them and their updates will be a lot more sporadic. For "Godspeed" in particular, I don't think the word count will surpass 20,000 words.
So, with that said, keep in mind that I will always prioritize the stories that you guys have to pay for because, well, you have to pay for it and I want to make sure that I'm delivering quality content and real value for your money. My free stories will still be good but not as long, reliable or thought-out.
Disclaimer: I love all my work and consistently try to put my best foot forward but I have to be logical as well. It's unfair for me to spend hours on a book I'm not even getting paid for.
Merging Two Genres Of Writing
This is the part that gets me all excited.
You see, "Godspeed" is extra special because it'll be a hybrid between poetry and prose! I'm combining the two genres to adequately tell the story and though I've literally never done this before, I already see it working.
If I'm being honest, I didn't consider myself a poet (and I still sort of don't) but all the comments I've been getting from HeartBreaker has really motivated me to get better at it and spend more time with poetry. I'm still not excellent, but I can definitely see the growth, and the poems that I've written so far for Godspeed are, surprisingly, good.
So, "Godspeed" will alternate between poetry and prose. They're interwoven to tell the same story. Godspeed is also scheduled to have 10-15 chapters all with poems in between!
Romance
Ah, yes, the most overdone genre in literature. I didn't ever think I'd be writing a romance novel but that's how "Godspeed" came to me and, well, it would be a disservice to alter my original idea. The plot would suffer for sure. Not to mention I want to expand. Prove my versatility as a writer, attract more readers and all that jazz.
Writing romance is particularly hard for me because well, my heart is black, as is my soul. At least I thought so. I won't give anything a way but I definitely surprised myself with this one. My cold, wrinkle, dead heart almost came back to life!
Selective Mutism
I've only ever known one selectively mute person in my life and at the time, I didn't know he was selectively mute. I was so ignorant I just thought he didn't talk. I was definitely interested in it but he never really responded to my questions (which of course Matthew you have the sensitivity of a baboon) and we weren't very close. Since then, however, I've done my research and I understand the condition so much better. Hopefully, by writing this story I can raise awareness to mutism and do it justice. It's so much more than not being able to talk.
Inspiration
I did a lot of research into social anxiety disorders and tried to gain different perspectives on it and how different people live and deal with it. Below, I've linked my primary sources of inspiration. If you love short YouTube films, consider me your dealer, my dear friend.
Conclusion
And there we have it! That's Everything You Need To Know About Godspeed all wrapped up in a nice little bow. You're welcome.
