So, school is about to start again pretty soon and, do we want to go back? No. Do we have to go back? Yes. It's unfortunate but it's the life of a student and to be honest, might as well make the best out of it. It's pointless trying o avoid the inevitable by spending our final days trying to forget about school and binging one more show on Netflix. We might as well face the music now.
Getting ready for school again can be quite frustrating. From correcting your devastatingly out-of-whack sleep schedule to stocking up on school supplies there's kind of a lot that goes into getting becoming a student again. But that's why you have me, right? This week, I'll be helping you guys to shift things back into gear so that when you step through those gates of hell you're not only prepared, you're ready.
But right before we jump right in, if you're new to my blog, welcome! I do posts like this all the time and if you like what you read, feel free to subscribe so you can get notified every time I drop a new post! To my constant readers, you guys already know how much I love you! Oh, and don't forget to tap that little heart icon so I can feel extra special! Alright now that that's out of the way, this is: Getting Ready For School in 2019.

Undone Holiday Homework
Now let's talk about the elephant in the room. If you're anything like me you've gotten some work to do over the break. Now, remember what I said about school being inevitable? Yeah, they're not going away and they won't do themselves so now might be the time to finish those assignments. Whether it's an essay or a research paper, it needs to be done before you head back to school because, if you go back on the first day knowing your homework isn't even done, let's face it, you'll feel like crap. Stepping into this new school semester and more importantly, stepping into 2019, our strongest foot has to take the lead, otherwise your start will be slow and you might just fumble. That means beginning on a high note, get those assignment over with.
Even though there's only a few days left, you can still make it your mission to finish those assignments ASAP to the best of your ability. You might not even completely finish but at least try to get as far as possible. That way, when you walk back into class, you'll actually have something to show that you were being productive. Your teacher won't think you're a complete mess and you won't feel like a complete mess. It's a win-win.

The struggle is how. Sure, telling yourself you'll do it is great and you can feel really productive allocating time for your work and colour coding your calendar and all. But the true pain lies within actually getting the work done. I have three words for you: Do not disturb. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, the do not disturb feature on your phone is heaven-sent. No notifications, no distractions. Nothing. At first, it will feel oddly lonely and you might have this hollow feeling in your chest (dramatic, I know) but, I promise you, once you start working for around ten minutes you will completely forget about your phone and before you know it, you've been working for like an hour. Trust me on this.
Tip: In addition to do not disturb, you can also try putting your phone in another room. Out of sight, out of mind, right?
Stocking Up On Essentials
You know that person where, on the very first day of school, in the first class, they tap you on your shoulder and ask your for your pen. If you are that person, don't be. Nobody likes that person. Honestly, being prepared on the first day is almost cathartic, at least for me. When a teacher says to start writing and whip out that new pen, you kinda feel like you're on top of your stuff. That's the energy we're bringing into this semester in 2019.

So, if you haven't already, go out to your local book store and pick up your necessities! They're cheap and it will literally take you 15 minutes. Here's a list of all the things I make sure to grab:
Pens
Ruler
Highlighter
Stapler/staples
Notebooks
Textbooks
Sticky Notes/Notepad
Plan What You Want To Accomplish This Semester

There's something so raw and visual about writing down your goals. I think, that's the moment they begin to manifest from being just a thought to something real.
The only way this semester will be different from the last is if you plan for it to be different. It won't just happen in the snap of a finger. You have to make an active effort to change whatever it is you're doing to ensure your success. So, think about last years' downfalls and what this years' achievements need to be. Perhaps, for example, last year you failed English. This year, plan to study at least 30 minutes of English every single day. In a month's time you, your teachers and all your friends will notice the difference. You'll have change; and good change = success
So whip out your planner, or even an unused notebook and jot down at least two things you want to change this year. Think about the steps you'll need to make to make those changes a reality and write those down too. The final step then is, do it.
Tip: You can use that exact list as a daily checklist. Every day, take out that book and ensure you followed all your steps. The first days will be rocky and you might forget, but in two weeks it'll be a apart of your lifestyle.
