The game is changing, readers, whether we like it or not. And Wattpad is leading at the front of the line carrying their orange and white flag with more patriotism than a republican on the 4th of July. With a monthly readership of around 65 million reads and millions of active users, Wattpad is currently the top storytelling app you can find. Many have tried to mimic their success but Wattpad's loyal readers, vast variety of books and free interface still manages to keep them yards ahead of any competition, even after more than a decade of its initial launch.
However, despite Wattpad's success, they haven't had the most encouraging reputation. Around 2012, Wattpad was booming, but for all the wrong reasons. Cliches, poor writing, unimaginative fanfiction and tween-drama became somewhat synonymous to the brand and although Wattpad is taking a much more serious approach now by giving some of their most popular books movie and book deals and even paying their top authors, they haven't quite been able to shake that first impression they once had on the public.
In fact, when I told someone I won the ChangeMaker award for this year's Wattys and I explained that the category celebrated stories 'written form underrepresented point of views in traditional media', he went, "Wow, that's deep. I thought Wattpad was just for young girls and cliche stories."
That was only one instance out of many where I've had to defend Wattpad. Sure, the platform has underwhelming stories because anyone with an internet connection can write on it, but just as easily there are also exceptional writers on the platform who build names for themselves. So, in no particular order, this is: Six Authors That Will Change Your Mind About Wattpad.

If I'm honest, I'm still aghast at the fact that Diana hasn't landed a publishing deal yet. Though she only has one novel on her profile, it is extraordinary in every sense. The raw characters, mature writing style and original plot makes her the epitome of quality over quantity and with such an incredible story she undoubtedly classes herself among the top of Wattpad's most skilled writers. Similarly to how I'll never forget 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower', I'll never forget 'Like Hurricanes'. She is simply impeccable.

Like, Diana, Ana Jarlow Bloom only has one novel but her story is incredible nonetheless, her 2018 Watty win exemplifies that. I actually have a review of the first half of her book "Rest Easy" right her on my blog so you can click here to read it and get all the details but, just know that she is incredible and her story makes me emotional. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Famously hilarious tweeter, Emily Slough, apparently also writes in her spare time. Really though, Emily is a truly exceptional author. Recently, she unpublished quite a number of her most popular books in order to cleanse her profile and redefine herself as a writer to be known for the work she's most proud of. Spoiler Alert: it worked. With a new emphasis on her culture and writing well-paced relationships like in "The Art of Falling" Emily really deserves another Watty. Her writing is whimsical and melancholic, possessing the ability to make you empathize with each character she unfolds without you even realizing it.
If you've ever been on Wattpad, you know it's a true struggle to find a good romance novel. Many are unrealistic and others are over-saturated to the point where if people ask if you've read it you have to tell them no (even though you're currently waiting for the next update on Friday). This is why finding Christine's books are a true saving grace. Even traditionally published books that I've read do not match the sophistication and depth of Christine's characters. I constantly found myself breathless while reading 'Kissing is the Easy Part' and the sequel so far has lived up to my expectations. Crafting teenage characters are difficult, but somehow Christine does that and so much more, all the while managing to make it look easy.
5. @spite
The unofficial Queen of Wattpad's Fantasy, Wendii's stories are out of this world. She details magic in the most beautiful and realistic way possible and she weaves together storylines with ease. The first thing that will grip you about Wendii's stories are undoubtedly her descriptions. She makes the unreal seem, well, real and few have that gift. Not to mention, her works makes you feel like a badass at all times. Please visit her profile here.
P.S. Her covers are beautiful.

Even though her update schedule isn't always...steady, it mostly won't matter because Magnus' characters make an unforgettable impression on her readers and the storyline will have you thinking about it even if she doesn't update for weeks. With action. unforgettable characters and a unique writing style Magnus' books are some of the best experiences you'll have on Wattpad. hands down.
Conclusion
And there you have it, Six Wattpad Authors That Will Change Your Mind About Wattpad. As time goes by I'm sure there will be an emergence of even more talented writers and when that happens, readers, expect another list featuring the new talent!
