Welcome back, readers! Now, I know I normally update on Saturday so you're probably like ??? Well, in case you didn't know this February for #BlackHistoryMonth I'm doing extra special mid-weekly posts to celebrate my brothers and sisters! So that means, every Wednesday/Thursday I'll be dedicating a post to a black creator who I really look up to and is making huge waves right now! So, I encourage you guys to keep reading, learn more about these incredible people and follow them on all their social media to support!

Welcome to #BlackHistoryMonth with Matthew

For the entire month of February all my blog posts will be centered on celebrating my brothers and sisters. From giving writing advice about how to write black characters to showcasing some amazing black content creators changing the game right now, I'll be pushing out fully black content all month long. Not to mention, for this limited time I'll be uploading twice a week instead of once. So, you need to get in on this. Subscribe below to never miss an update!

Chidera Eggerue: The Slumflower

I first discovered Chidera on Youtube when I saw her Ted Talk. Ted talks are always incredible, at least most times, but something really stuck out to me about Chidera. Her philosophy was so relevant to me that every word that came out of her mouth resonated deeply and I instantly fell in love.

Chidera describes what it is to live a lifestyle independent and divorced from society's expectations. She is honest about what it is like to be lonely but she embraces it rather than shuns it, and in a world where the number of likes you have determines your self-worth, her lifestyle couldn't be more relevant.

If you struggle dealing with other people's opinion of you, if you're afraid of being left alone to your thoughts and if you feel inadequate around your friends, Chidera has been there before and she can help you to get out!

Also, you see that book Kehlani is holding right there? It's Chidera's! Chidera has documented some of her most profound lifestyle principles in a book "What A Time To Be Alone". I haven't read it yet but it's on my list and I've heard nothing but positive reviews. Here's a synopsis:

What A Time To Be Alone by Chidera Eggerue

In What A Time To Be Alone, The Slumflower will be your life guru, confidante and best friend. She’ll show you that being alone is not just okay: it’s just about the best freaking thing that’s ever happened to you. As she says, ‘You’re bad as hell and you were made with intention.’ It’s about time you realised. Peppered with insightful Igbo proverbs from Chidera’s Nigerian mother and full of her own original artwork, What A Time To Be Alone will help you navigate the modern world. We can all decide our own fates and Chidera shows us how, using a three-part approach filled with sass, wisdom and charm. Learn how to celebrate YOU – decide your self-worth, take time to heal and empower yourself in this messy world. Don’t worry about THEM – avoid other people’s demons and realize that everyone is protecting themselves from something – no matter how aggressive their method. Feel the togetherness in US – sustain and grow healthy relationships and avoid toxicity in your friendships. Own your story. Create your own narrative. Read this book.

But,Chidera ain't even done yet. She also has her very own podcast (if you haven't gotten into podcasts yet, you seriously should consider it), thisispokepod. On there, Chidera and her friends discuss issues about race, politics and gender and they redefine many norms we’ve accepted as a society. Iron sharpens iron, readers. Get into Chidera because she will change your life.

Conclusion

Chidera is making big moves in her career now. From hosting huge events to speaking on radio it all goes to show Chidera Eggerue is a force to be reckoned with on a global scale.
