1. The Cursewright’s Vow by @HouseofMourthia
This year’s Watty Awards is full of amazing and well-written books and The Cursewright’s Vow is no exception. It’s abundantly clear in this novel just how much thought, effort and heart has been unleashed into this story. The world and magic feel real enough to touch and the writer does not shy away from serious subjects like prostitution. This book is for an aged audience, one who can appreciate the darker themes not very popular on Wattpad and moreso, appreciate the intricacies of the magic system as well. The characters are immediately intriguing and their interactions, relationships and journeys make them some of the most memorable characters experienced both on Wattpad and traditionally published. Being one of the longer books on this list, The Cursewright’s Vow is worth every second of reading and the fact that it is not traditionally published, should account for a loss for traditional media. This book should be enjoyed by masses. If you’re in search for an investing read with high paranormal elements and a protagonist that will have you cheering for him at the very first page, The Cursewright’s Vow is your book.
2. Deadwater Kings by @ferocities
I’m yet to finish this book, but my time reading it has been phenomenal in the best way. The characters in Deadwater Kings are diverse in an effortless way that you forget their diversity unlike much of the forced diversity in traditional media. The main character is the very embodiment of a strong female character as well. Without giving up her femininity, she tackled hard situations with wit, purpose and help from her supportive friends that balance the story and keep the readers in awe of their relationship. With a high sense of world building and complex realities like the one we live in, the author holds nothing back as she describes every detail that makes her story so unique with precision and vividness. If you’re looking for a high fantasy read intertwined with politics and magic, Deadwater Kings is the read for you.
3. Goddess of Love and War by @Hector-Torres

Dark phantasm at its best, Goddess of Love and War rings reminiscent of high paranormal teen dramas but with real-as-life characters and a defined system of magic that those dramas often seemed to miss. Aimed at young adults, it is easy for readers to settle themselves into the classrooms in Goddess of Love and War and identify themselves in the complex relationships between these stories. Additionally, the high magic and whimsical qualities of this story keeps the plot high on adrenaline and makes every chapter a new battle for readers to digest all together.
4. Awake by @autheras

An incredible mystery novel, Awake keeps its readers constantly at bay. The story continues to develop chapter by chapter as new problems arise that the protagonist has neither the experience nor the strength to battle. However, she is always cognizant of each issue and their repercussions, constantly weighing her options and discovering new ways to overcome experiences, especially with the lives of the people she cares most about at risk. This highly aware novel will place each reader into the very shoes of the protagonist as they both try to uncover mysteries, solve new problems and battle the all-powerful antagonist. If you’re looking for a who-dunnit mystery thriller with a twist, Awake is undoubtedly the story for you.
5. Born from chaos @spite-
I’m sure somewhere deep in the comment section of this story you’ll be able to find me screaming each chapter. A high paced paranormal story vibrant with woc (women of colour), Born from Chaos is nothing short of brilliant. One of the darker stories on this list, Born Form Chaos is heavy with magic and folklore and emphasized by the sheer uniqueness of each character in the story. The characters are relatable to a teenage audience yet their courage, wit and skill make for admirable models and moreso keep the story moving quickly. With high stakes and a very real threat, Born from Chaos excels in keeping the reader on edge at all times with its horror themes and dark magic. If you’re looking for a story loaded with strong female characters intertwined with the darkest forms of magic you’ll find on Wattpad, Born From Chaos is the story for you.
6. Seven Devils by @seekabsolution
Though these characters are young, the problems that the author hands them are cripplingly large. Being the shortest book on this list, Seven Devils lacks nothing that the other books on this list has. The story is face-paced with quick flashbacks to keep readers on their feet and piece together the timeline in a completely unique way, the characters are mature and realistic but still interesting enough to keep you in awe and the mystery element is high. Though there is no magical element present in this story, it is still overflowing with horror as the readers discovers what is truly to fear is what humans are capable of. If you’re in need of a quick and engaging story with a powerful didactic, Seven Devils is your story.
7. Glass Eye by @BenSobiek
Among the most well-written stories on Wattpad, this story ages like wine. Glass Eye follows a dynamic character with true struggles and motivations that will have readers self-reflecting as they make it past each chapter. The clear and interesting plot also aids in keeping the story unlike anything else available on Wattpad and excels in dignifying it as the strongest in terms of action and engagement. The story make an excellent job of captivating the reader and unfolding the story at a steady pace, only to quicken before your eyes. Glass Eye is your mystery thriller with a dizzying plot twist at the end, without a doubt worth every read.
8. For the Damned by @clarifications
From the beginning no one in For the Damned can be trusted, not even the protagonist herself. This is what makes For the Damned so interesting. Recovering from memory loss, the main character in the story is forced to uncover her story each day as she must face all the consequences of her well-hidden secrets kept by the person who she was before. Once you put down this story, you’ll think about it until you’re able to pick it back up again. The characters are impactful and the society of the novel unravel itself with every precisely selected word. If you’re looking for a story with a group of young and proud characters in a town laden with dangers around each corner look no more. For the Damned has all that, and more.

Have a spooky Halloween, reader
Thanks so much for the high praise of Cursewright's Vow! For those wondering why a high / dark fantasy novel might make for good Halloween reading, I'll just add that flesh-hungry skeletons, spirits of the angry dead, and especially werewolves all have significant roles to play, and I think you'll find some great horror moments even if it isn't really a horror novel.
Proud and humbled to be listed with all these other great stories. Matthew Dawkins is right -- there's a lot more quality on Wattpad than some people might have you believe.
